Hi there!
Welcome to my design portfolio. |
ADVERTISINGWhile working for a local newspaper, I designed strategic and eye-catching advertising for a variety of local businesses. These businesses included banks, hospitals, grocery and retail stores, real estate, politics, car dealerships and more.
I also created full page layouts, handled ad scheduling, composing and pagination. Right: WINNER Iowa Newspaper Association Awards 2020 - Best Ad featuring Automotive, Boats, etc.

Left: I designed the headers and footers of this special Ag section as well as managed the pagination of the articles on this page. Right: In this special section, I selected and edited the feature article, designed the typography and composed the 2x2 ad features sold for this section.
The three other three items include a full page thank you and update from a community group, another 2x2 special feature section promoting Small Business Saturday, and a full page grocery sale feature. |

SCREENPRINT DESIGNI've spent four years as a graphic designer for an apparel decoration company. I create custom art for screenprint, embroidery, applique, and more. We work with customers and our sales reps to create designs in a variety of styles for many different uses, making sure we manage brand standards for companies, schools, and universities.
This is a fast paced design environment. I usually work on 50 different designs on average during the course of one day. Here are a few of my favorite custom creations. |
FREELANCEIn my free time, I've worked on a number of freelance projects for businesses including The Carroll Public Library, The Donna Reed Foundation for the Performing Arts, The Carroll Community Theatre, Kingman Row Publishing Company, and more.
These projects are often varied in nature. I like to pursue these projects to keep different design and technology skills fresh. RIGHT: This is a logo I created, featuring a mascot I designed for the Carroll Public Library.

I was approached by a small start up publishing company to submit a concept design of a cover for their first publication. My design was selected and I met with the author to discuss the book in detail and start on the official developed cover for an e-edition of Flye on the Wall. The concept, design, and photography are all original.
About a year later, I was approached again to expand the design into a full cover spread for a physical printing of Flye. I also created several materials for a promotional tour for the author. |
This design was recognized with a Certifcate of Merit by a Region V respondent from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. It was also nominated for and chosen for inclusion in the Costume Parade at that year's festival.

Costume DesignEurydice - Simpson College
Based on the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, Eurydice builds a relationship with the father she never got in life after suddenly dying on her wedding day. As her bereaved husband fights his way to the Underworld to get her back, Eurydice faces a tough decision overseen by three "stones", denizens of the underworld, and Hades himself. My design showcased a transition between the bright hopefulness of youth and the burdens of pain and loss for Orpheus and Eurydice, and the chilling entrenchment of the citizens who call the strange circus of the underworld home. |
Scenic DesignFestival of Short Plays: Theatre of the Oppressed - Simpson College
Focusing on the work of Vaclav Havel, this show featured five plays all written while the playwrights were living or incarcerated under oppressive government regimes. The set had to be functional for five disparate shows. I focused on uniform square patterns on floor, walls, and ceiling to represent the strictures and pressure of the world baring down on the characters while barely holding back their fear and panic represented in the painting on the backdrop. |

Hair & Makeup DesignA Year with Frog and Toad - Simpson College
A musical based on the popular Frog and Toad children's books, this production features swinging big band style music that accompanies episodes from Frog and Toad's friendship throughout one year. The show was staged like an old vaudeville performance. My design included makeup and hairstyles that were authentic to the 20's time period while also reflecting the heightened aspects necessary for the stage and children's storytelling. |
